Lifting Liberty: The Liberty Tree Moves To The Magic Kingdom
This early 1971 shot shows the Walt Disney World Horticulture Department selecting and transplanting the iconic tree to it’s new home in the Magic Kingdom. The massive and majestic oak came from the southern border of the Florida property and had a second sapling grafted into it’s trunk to enhance it’s shape and stature amongst the quaint additions of lanterns to represent the 13 American Colonies at the hour of independence.
Symbolic of the meeting place for the Committees of Correspondence and the Sons of Liberty, the Liberty Tree is a organic icon of the refined and quietly noble Liberty Square
